Participants will challenge long-held assumptions, correct decision-making biases, review existing strategies, and engage multiple stakeholders using scenario planning, a strategic tool also known as futures or foresight thinking. We will examine case examples of unexpected events that few organizations anticipated, such as:

  • The oil crises of the 1970s,
  • The fall of the Soviet Union in the late 1990s,
  • The 9/11 attacks in the early 2000s,
  • The global recession of 2007-2008
  • The COVID-19 pandemic,
  • The rapid takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban.


These black swan events, though rare, have profound impacts on organizations.
