Dr. Daskalakis undertakes empirically driven, applied in scope and interdisciplinary research that spans three areas: carbon finance and environmental policy, energy finance and policy, and finance interfaces. In carbon finance, he is one of the most highly cited researchers worldwide and the primary author of the seminal paper in the area. His focus has been on investigating the operation of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and deriving timely environmental policy insights from a financial perspective. In energy finance, his focus has been on understanding the interrelations between carbon and electricity markets and, also, on promoting renewable electricity generation through investments in energy storage systems. In the latter area, finance interfaces, his focus has mainly been on providing hard evidence on the positive impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices on firm financial performance. This research has attracted significant media interest, for example in the World Economic Forum, The Conversation, The Independent and Moneyish (Dow Jones newswire), and, also, has resulted in invitations to present the findings in practitioners’ conferences organized by Glassdoor Inc. and the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF). Dr Daskalakis is a regular reviewer for numerous highly esteemed journals, such as Nature, while his research has been published in the European Journal of Operational Research, the Journal of Banking & Finance, Economics Letters, Finance Research Letters, Review of Futures Markets, The Energy Journal, Energy Policy and Applied Energy.
Dr. Daskalakis, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK, is passionate about teaching finance courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and post-experience level. At MBSC, he teaches Data Analysis for Management (MIM505), Corporate Finance (MIM513) and Entrepreneurial Finance (FIN513).
