Profile

Dr. Erik Strauss is Professor of Accounting at MBSC. Before, he was Professor of Management Control at ESCP and served as Visiting Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

He completed his PhD at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, focusing on The Emergence of Management Control Systems in 2011.

Erik’s interdisciplinary research spans the fields of management accounting, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and organisational behaviour. He is particularly interested in the role of digital technologies such as AI in reshaping management control systems and organisational practices. His recent research explores topics such as the role of trust in artificial intelligence within auditing firms and the impact of performance shocks on organisational decision-making. His work has been published in leading journals, including Contemporary Accounting ResearchManagement Accounting Research, and European Accounting Review. In addition to his scientific work, he actively contributes to the academic community. He is a reviewer for journals such as Management Accounting ResearchEuropean Accounting Review, and Organization Science, and serves as faculty member of the doctoral colloquium of the European Network for Research in Organisational and Accounting Change.

Erik is also passionate about upskilling humans in times of AI. He supports organisations and their leaders in taking informed, strategic decisions about AI, focusing on providing neutral guidance and a human-centred perspective, ensuring that AI enhances leadership, collaboration, and long-term success.
